Bosman designs and manufactures lightweight turbine housing struts. Weight reduction is important because of the aircraft engine’s fuel consumption. For information: 1 kg weight reduction equals about EUR 3,000.– in fuel cost savings over an aircraft engine’s life span.
The current aircraft engines mainly use casting parts for structural parts like turbine housings.
Bosman and its customers focus on designing combinations of casting parts and light weight sheet metal parts by applying high-quality forming and (mass) production technologies. Lightweight struts are now already used in prototypes and test engines.
Some of the critical processes managed by Bosman:
- Hydro-forming (from one piece)
- Robot welding
